Apologies
I don't like
Those apologies.
The midnight ones,
The drunken ones,
The lonely ones...
I don't want to be
The girl you think of
Only when nothing
Is right.
I want to the the girl
You want to tell
Everything.
I want to be with you,
Not just when it's bad.
I want to be with you
When everything is right-
When you're dancing
In the sunlight,
And you're laughing
At a really bad joke.
I won't leave you
When you're sad,
But just remember
That I am not only alive
At midnight when
You're needing me.
Don’t Look Up
Don't look up and see the sky.
Nor the leaves of trees and cars passing by.
Don't look up at the people taking the sidewalk.
Nor watch what they do as they laugh and talk.
Don't look up. Keep watching your feet.
Don't risk a glance at everything you meet.
Because to look up is to see what's there.
And often what you find is less than unfair.
Keep your eyes on your shoes as you go.
No one will bother you if you keep your eyes low.
Don't look up. Not even left or right.
Not to spot the flowers that aren't in sight.
People will pick them, poison, and stomp them.
Uncaring that each fragile petal is a gem.
Don't look up and see the pain.
That on sunny days people can still feel the rain.
Don't look up and see what you'll wish you had not.
And instead of missing everything, you'll only miss a lot.
