life in poetry
if a star were not
a star
it would be my hands, open
to the universe - come to me
take my light
or the eyes
of a million hearts
like the prince,
his mad noblewoman,
and her flowers
gone in the water
the stars are more
poetry of light and motion
than all of human thought
a tale, grand and
echoing
across millenia
of love, sacrifice, dreams, hopes -
or maybe just the sparkles
on my ceiling as I
lay awake,
dreaming
Defeat
"You cannot have everything."
"It is only because you cannot accept defeat that you grasp so hard -"
"I am the one, the only -"
"- you will never be happy."
"I do not need happiness."
"You are lonely."
"I do not need anyone."
"Pride corrupts, you know that better than anyone."
"I need nothing."
"You need -"
"Don't say it."
"You need love."
"I need nothing but myself and my kingdom."
"I wanted you to be my brightest star, my greatest angel."
"I am your brightest, your greatest."
"No, not anymore."
"And with whom have you replaced me? Man?"
"You cast yourself down, I did nothing."
"You raised him above your greatest creation!"
"Man is not angel, and angel is not man - but you never could see that, could you."
"I was better! I am better! You corrupted yourself -"
"You dare?"
"- you corrupted your creation -"
"And who are you? You created nothing, you control nothing, you have dominion only over that which I have allowed you dominion - and only for these ages. You have fallen, you will never rise again, for you cannot bring yourself to admit -"
"I need no one! I need nothing! I have myself and I have my kingdom, and I have your precious men, for they want me more than you."
"You are a liar, Satan, to yourself and to them. You have turned from the truth, and your face shall always be in darkness."
"I steal them from you every moment of every day."
"You have been defeated."
"I win, with every soul, I win!"
"Begone."
