Strings
As we look around site
I can’t but feel I need to write
No strings attached so many say
Could read a thousand in a day
Do we really mean these simple words?
No strings attached! That’s absurd
Life is a never-ending ball of twine
That attaches all of us but not in a common line
No strings attached how you dare say
I beg to differ, there simply isn’t another way
From the moment the torrid message is sent
The strings we deny have already bent
Around the world on a medium unknown
But yes the seeds of attachment have been sown
It’s the length and breadth of the string that portend
Whether some long, some short, some that never end
It’s how much we let the twine unravel
That sets the stage for the mind travel
The string can tie, the string can bind
It twists and twirls up in our mind
Do we let it grip us tight?
Or cut it quick, in fear seek flight?
Is it thin and lacking strength?
For some of us the perfect length
At a distance it might appear
There are no strings, nothing to fear
But as a clear unseen fishing line
It’s there to catch us and hook our mind
No matter what we do to deny
The string is there, it passes no one by
I try to inveigle as much as I could
That strings connected must be understood
Those strings aren’t real and they aren’t true
They don’t apply to me and you
No strings attached!!! How absurd
It begins with just some simple words
Friends with Benefits
The secret conversation begins
As we ask our question behind the computer screen
What is that your looking for?
What is it that you desire?
You imagine the look of the person on the other side
As they contemplate the answer to provide
The silent pause as time goes by
Watching the screen for a hoped reply
You envision the person’s shoulder shrug
The message appears slow as a slug
“FWB????” Is what appears
This has really pricked up the virtual ears
Benefits of what sorts you ask
Time to find out is now the task
What is that two strangers can do
That would seem mutually beneficial to you
You know what it is you’re looking for
But behind the question is so much more
The smile that quickly appeared upon your face
Slowly fades as your mind and heart begin to race
The question has been asked so many times before
And it as always ended in a slamming door
The fingers type out your reply
“What sort of benefits and tell me why?
Will the answer be what you seek?
You shrink in you chair mild and meek
Will it be the same today?
“A meeting somewhere but you have to pay”
“I have bills and you have needs”
“This can be beneficial” you dishearteningly read
Not the answer you were hoping for
The term ‘friends’ mean so much more
Companionship is what you desire
A conversation that could start a fire
When it come to the casual type
For me it’s nothing more than hype
No getting to know the other one?
Wham, bam thank you ma’am , you’re done?
The benefits that you’re looking for
Is not just a hookup but so much more
To know the person, to read the face
Every emotion in its place
Knowing what’s up and knowing what’s down
When you see the face with a smile or frown
Companionship at it’s best
A place for a weary heart to rest
Never daring to cross that line
Eyes wide open knowing the person will never be mine
Wishing for nothing more but a sliver of their time
Sharing a cup of coffee or a margarita with a lime
Idle chat or passionate prose
Let’s just see where the conversation goes
These are the benefits that you have with a friend
Something you feel should not come to an end
And even though you know you must go
Walking away one more time, it must be so
But the lingering smile sits right there
Holding its place because you know they care
Finally you see that the answer is fraught
With a reply you really should not
Exposing the heart for them to see
A “FWB” was not meant to be
As the message is sent you gently decline
“Thanks anyway, but I think I’m fine”

Fire
Two beings born of the same tinder of life. Arising from pieces of kindling called loneliness, hurt, regret, and desire, all in the same pile prepared to burn. As the match of a new relationship lights fire to the heap of debris, two flames emerge on the opposite sides of each other.
The inferno begins to enlarge, and the two flames begin to ignite with a burning desire to touch each other. The heat of their passions begins to warm the air around them and in that moment, they are alone together. Dancing in the bed of fire like two flamingo dancers they entwine in each other’s arms and embrace quickly but just as quick separating. Knowing as they come together as two, they will combine into one. Each with their own source of fuel given to them by the circumstances of life. They glow a bright orange and a fiery red as their essence grows. Sparks fly all around them, created by their intense passion to touch one another, and the embers crackle all around them. Rapidly they merge, and in perfect harmony burst into a single flame, separate but one. Burning brightly like the sun in the sky it lights up the night around them.
Too quickly the single flame loses its energy. As the heat of its passion consumes everything around it, it slowly dims. Before long it fades into a smoldering pile of ash. What was left of the two flames is now glowing red embers in a heap of ash. As they are cooled by the night air the flame separates and the two flames reappear. To be extinguished once again by the world around them.
Blackness…………………………
I am.......
I am......
jealous of you for having loved
hurt for you for having lost
glad for you for finding your place
sad for you for taking the hard road
I am .....
angry with you, you didn’t leave room in your heart for another
at peace with you for moving on
astounded by you because of your resiliency
befuddled by you, for the things you say
I am.....
confounded with you for the brutal honesty
at loss with you, for you hide yourself from me
enthralled by you, you have shown me your mind
depressed by you, you have closed your heart to me
I am…….selfish

The Prose is Like a Rose
It begins as a small bud on the bush
Tightly enveloped in the green leaves of thought
The tips of what to come barely exposed
Attached to a bush of knowledge and experience it is slowly nourished
As the waters of thought course through the stem
With the sunrays of imagination basking it with life
The tight bud begins to unfold.
Slowly, slowly, ever so slowly it begins to mature
First a blossoming young flower
Opening itself for the world to see
The colors of words showing in its petals
The bright green leaves of ideas in its bud
It explodes into the flower it was meant to be
Its fragrance of emotions in the petals say to the world, look at me
Its wide open petals for the whole world to see
It speaks of beauty and charm of imagination gone wild
Its glory exposed to all that would look
But soon it loses its shimmer and shine
As the bush it is on can no longer sustain its magnificence
As the color fades and the petals drop and its heavy bud droops
Will anyone appreciate the flower it was once was.
It withers and dies on the bush of the mind
Having once been alive for all to appreciate the glory it brought
Yes the prose is like a rose as a new bud appears…….

Lost
Can anyone tell me where the little boy with the laughter that could be heard through the playgrounds went?
Does anyone know where the adolescent young man with an exuberance for life that was unmatched has gone?
Where is the teen, who thought nothing in life could overtake him, at?
The young man who was going to grab the world by the horns?
The man who loved life with a passion unmatched by others?
Did the daily struggles of his life take his laughter?
Did the responsibilities of early fatherhood dim his exuberance?
Did the failure of a marriage take his confidence?
Did the harshness of the world steal his love for life?
Did he wander in to the forest of a cold cruel world and cannot find his way out?
Lost.
