You have dictated the last 10 years of my life....

Year 1- Despair- complete abandonment, my personal hell

Year 2- Frustration- argh.....why? What did I ever do to deserve this?

Year 3- Anger- How could you? What is wrong with you?

Year 4- Sadness- Tears that continued to fall, at the mere mention of your name

Year 5-Doubt- Was it something I did? Did I drive you away?

Year 6- Loneliness- I'm alone, no hand to hold, just me in the dark. 

Year 7- Acceptance- This is my life, and you are not a part of it.

Year 8- Determination- I am strong, I will survive, I only need me.

Year 9- Contentment- Things did not turn out the way I wanted, but I am happy. 

Year 10- Hope- Maybe I am ready, to maybe find love again?

You are a part of me, but you do NOT define me. And all I can say is thank you! I needed to be crushed, in order to be saved, I needed pain, in order to know love, but most of all thank you for letting me go.  You were the prologue to the greatest love story I have ever known. Thank You!

Double or nothing,

That is NOT the deal,

The cards have been dealt,

but, I must appeal. 

I see that smirk,

I have my cards, the ones I hide.

I'll play my hand, call your bluff,

because whatever happens, I'll take it in stride. 

I play to win,I have my rules,

and they're not always fair,

I can call it a full house, because

I know you're not going any where.

A little girl with childhood fantasies,

The princess, waiting in the tower,

for that knight to come save her. 

A dragon keeping guard, and her all alone

to dream of true love's kiss. 

A dream of that kiss, the hope that it would

bring, love at first sight. A promise of forever, 

and happily ever after. 

Life is not a fairytale though. I am not a little girl,

and while sassy and beautiful, a princess I am not.

My knight never came, and the dragon I had to tame,

now it's my pet, and together we stay in the tower.

Yet, why even now, do I dream of true love's kiss.

Why do I believe in that happily ever after?

Am I a fool, a hopeless romantic?

Or, is it because I know if I step out of this tower,

I might just find what I am truly looking for,

My Prince....the one that has my true love's kiss. 

I know I have you during the day. I can see you, hear you, feel you. But...

Nighttime gets a little scary, so that's why there is nothing better...

Than you holding me close, whispering in my ear and telling me, 

"I love you, sweet dreams, and goodnight, baby!" with a kiss. 

You might know friendship, 

You definitely have experienced lust, 

You probably have fallen in love, 

But when you meet your soulmate.....

OH, your soul sings.

You are whole, in a way you never knew,

You are able to talk without words,

Feel each others emotions, and 

Hear your heart beat as one. 

For when you find your soulmate, 

Your soul is truly complete. YOU are complete.  

Your body is exhausted,

You're in bed, eyes wide open,

Your mind racing,

You try the left side, right side, back, stomach, foot of the bed....

And by everything that is holy, you finally manage to fall asleep, 

it's 4:59 in the morning ....

Your alarm rings at 5:00 am. 

So, by chance I met him online.

And now we talk all the time.

When we respond, it's pretty much the same...

We definitely finish each others....."sandwiches!"

He is smart, funny, and all so cute.

Just hearing his voice, puts a smile on my face. 

He is stubborn, brave, loyal, and quick-witted,

You know, all those Gryffindor traits. 

I can't believe a man like you exists in the world,

You're sweet, kind, and thoughtful too.

I can't wait for our date, when we give us a try,

Actually, I can't wait to say that, "You're my guy!!"

Slumbering for so many long years,

Shrouded in darkness, cold, and all alone.

I hid inside myself, deep where no one could see.

Strong and determined, I fought to remain in control,

I built my walls, I had my fort.

A survivor, and all I needed was me. 

Then, a fateful day, I took a chance,

A bold move really, a small "Hi!"

What came over me, I cannot say. 

My body was stirred, trembling,

As past reminders came flooding back,

But I shook them away, and said, "not today."

No, today was my day. It was for me.

I could feel my eyes begin to focus, 

Blinking the sleepiness gone.

I felt my hearing return, and I heard

The sound of you calling to me, 

That voice that had me drawn. 

One by one my senses were coming alive,

Feelings, I never thought I'd experience again,

Came back, and I began to fall. 

I closed my eyes, prepared to crash,

But your hand caught me and pulled me up,

You came running, you answered the call. 

Before I even knew what was happening,

You were there, surrounding me.

You pulled me close, you held me tight.

You broke down my walls, and took over my fort,

You whispered, "No, you're not doing this alone."

You held my hand, and said, "Together we fight!"

For love is always worth the battle, 

The journey can be long, but

After the night, out comes the sun!

You are my companion, my partner, my best friend, 

You found me and now together we shall be,

Ready, Set...look at me and whisper "Run!"
