In order to smile she is
~not being carded outside the club~
~finding a dollar in her pocket~
~eating the first chip in the bag~
honestly though
she feels fresh soil underfoot
she sees flowers in full bloom
she can hear the faint pump
of the hummingbird’s wings
she is drinking a crisp pale ale
in the garden
and talking with her late uncle
she is receiving a nod from a stranger
and moving in fresh sheets she can
kiss under
also
she sees a sky full of stars
without a man
holding her back
she is in lockdown
without any
strings attached
and even more honestly
she is holding a conversation
with someone
other than herself
The Line
You are standing in a queue in the shopping center.
A broke college kid.
You have been here before, countless times.
Your few items are scanned and packaged.
You hand over a crumpled twenty dollar bill.
One dollar short.
The man behind you smiles.
He hands over a coin, a silent exchange.
You meet his eye for a second.
In that moment, your faith in humanity is restored.
What makes me smile (Cont. pt. 3)
Years went by with ease as she was safe to be in my home. She always cooked breakfast until one morning...
“Persephone Rose, my Darling!! Where are y... Oh my Millennials of the UnderBirth!! What happened here?” I asked as I felt tears run down my face of shock and horror.
I saw blood everywhere as I ran toward the kitchen. She was laying on the floor, covered in blood and missing her horns and claws. I knelt next to her body and closed her eyes.
“I will take revenge on those who did this to you, my dear.” I promised her as I hugged her one more time.
I threw her body into a firy pit. Just as I turned around, a young lady ran into me. She was breathing hard and I could hear footsteps running toward us. I pushed her to where she was behind me.
"Stay behind me." I said as I stood in front of her.
"Give us that lady!" A man yelled as they approached me.
"No!! Leave and tell them to stay away from here or they shall die at the entrance." I snarled as I killed one man and injured the other man.
The injured man left and I turned toward the young lady. The young lady was a silvery color.
"Th... Thank you, sir. M... my name is Silver Feather." She stuttered as she hugged me.
"Stay with me and you shall be protected." I said as I hugged her back.
For years now, no one has bothered us. No one has come down to take her away. This makes me smile as I can now relax, knowing that we are safe.
