Amphitrite: Queen of the Ocean
[Earlier this year there was found a strange shaped bottle floating on the waves of the Pacific Ocean. It had obviously traveled far, and inside was a small paper, written upon in a strange glimmering blue ink in a strange font. It carried a message which is written below.]
"I am Amphitrite, Queen of the Ocean. I live in a deep, dark land underneath the ocean waves. At the bottom of the sandy ocean floor a civilization has risen. We have palaces, fountains, gardens, animals and they are all in the deep, blue depths. You may look for us, but you will not find us. I have heard of the 'cats' that see in the dark in the upper lands. It is like that for us; we see in the dark. There is no light down here, not even a glimmer. We have no sun, no stars and no moon. We only have the darkness. I am their queen. My mother ruled before me and before her my grandmother. It goes thus back for generations. We always have a queen. Still, even though I am the queen, I have never been very high in the water, since it is forbidden to rise more than two hundred feet above the ocean floor. But, we have many elders who have been to the top. They say the world above is bright, green and full of strange creatures. Someday I wish to see it, but that in all probability will never happen. Yet, in the last few years we have heard a strange story about a man who travels the ocean floor. Perhaps someday we will see him. But, we probably will hide in our secret subterranean caves and he will not know of our existence. I have heard that if you let a bottle with a messsage go in the free-waters it will float to the top. I will do that with this paper. Perhaps someday the Land-People will find it and wonder at this civilization far beneath the waves. Perhaps."
Undiscovered
Settled on a sandy bed beneath a coral reef.
He lies very still.
Undiscovered by man,
he has no name.
Long tentacle arms stretch out to catch his pray.
Each tentacle has numerous chopping mouths to digest it’s pray.
Its camouflage skin hides him from the world above.
Scuba-divers are yet to make the technology to reach his depth.
His long tongue can catch near by plankton.
His claw like feet unable him to bury himself into the sand,
making him invisible to the eye.
He’s as big as a boarder Collie and as shy as a tortoise in its shell.
Unnamed, unnoticed
a creature of the seas.
