Lightning Strike
In the heart of night's dark shroud it came,
A flash of lightning, a furious flame.
Splitting the heavens with jagged scars,
Unveiling secrets from realms afar.
A moment's brilliance, a blinding sight,
Revealing shadows in eerie light.
Thunder's roar echoed through the air,
Whispers of stories, tales of despair.
Faces emerged from the electric haze,
Haunted souls lost in endless maze.
A glimpse into the unknown's domain,
Where fear and wonder forever reign.
A fleeting glimpse of truth untold,
In that flash of lightning's stronghold.
A world unseen in the silent night,
A brief connection to the other side.
In the darkness, your feet hang off the roof.
"Don't you have somewhere to be?" a voice asks from behind.
You turn to the boy. You notice his bloodshot eyes: blue and green. He isn't supposed to be here.
"No one will bother to find me," you reply at last, "My grandma has left."
He nods, as a sign of respect. "The government won't have to know..."
You breathe in, extending your bony hand. His grip is tight as he shakes it.
The noise reverberates in your eardrums, and a lurid flash haunts your last view.
Lightening Visions
The Universe is glitching again,
And we are so clueless in our tiny world of pretend.
The Almighty has crossed the wires again,
And we stare up at the evidence,
Powerful and resonant.
Clad with naivete,
Discussing important matters in our human suits,
always thinking we know more than we really do.
Does he ever feel a twinge
from my reverence
As I gaze into the Power
And wonder at what this all is?
So hopeful and helpless
Me or him?
Flawless and without sin,
Only in humanity
Do words exist.
Lightening strikes;
The world shorting out
Again.
The Flashback
As darkness crept in from atop the night sky, all I could do was stand in my room and watch as my fear grew inside me. A flash. That was all I saw, and then darkness. Fear overwhelmed me as I pounced into bed, until...
I saw it in the corner, a mere memory from last year, the night I was all alone, nothing but murkiness surrounding me. I had lost my way home, not a single person around, just me and Darkness, fighting for survival. I looked so scared, so alone, as I watched on.
Then, all went blank
Force of Nature
Rain and wind could do little to hide the beauty that was up above.
Powerful white streaks flashed across the obsidian sky; striking in mesmerizing positions and captivating all who were lucky enough to be watching.
But with beauty comes pain, and the land below was struck and burnt with hot tendrils of power. To underestimate its power was to taunt Death.
How it must feel to be anyone else... not knowing that these massive bolts were not what they seemed.
Lightening was not just a force of nature, but the wings of an ancient creature.
Dark Promises
The sun is setting and shadows are long. "I never finish a meal anymore," her voice is a reedy whisper. It's a dry contrast with prestorm humidity.
Winds gust and lights flicker. Growing up, we'd lose power during every thunderstorm.
"The generator won't come on until power goes out completely," she complains. "Sometimes I wonder if it was worth the price."
One Christmas, I had a Generac installed for her.
I doubt many Christmases remain.
Lightning accentuates a thunder peal and darkness falls. In those few seconds before lights return, I see shadows threaten of my world without a mother.
Supranatural Mischief
I donned asbestos gloves
Picked up ball lightening
Hurled it down to Earth
People fell like pins
I ionized the Borealis
Shuffling my feet on carpet
Touched a fellow by-the-toe
Falling like a TASERee
I collected acid rain
To dilute the Great Salt Lake
Mormons were alkalinized
Decreeing the new pH to be
I ran counter to Earth's rotation
Until I was geostationary
I could pick up all the GPS
Telling me where I can go
I can see souls leaving bodies
And hear the beauty of a face
And sublimate your better points
Before I return to my senses
