Duality, man.
Let go of the concept that life and it's choices are winnable. In any situation, someone is likely to feel more pleased than another. First, ask yourself if life is ever really black and white. No? Then is it really accurate to assume that there is an all win or all lose situation? Additionally, I would offer that it is often the challenging or "bad" times that provide the greatest opportunity for growth. That said, I'd chose whatever seemed to harm the fewest number of people/places/things from my limited perspective, knowing that there is probably alot that I don't/can't see. Then I would have grace on myself and go have a drink with a good friend and play with a puppy to remind me that not all of life is so fraught with moral dilemmas.
You Just Can’t Win
In difficult times when I feel I have no choice in a matter, or even when I do, but do not have a favorable outcome in such choices, I tend to find that it is easiest to accept that you just can't win. From there, you follow through with the one decision that doesn't suck as much.
D.B.
The prostitute they call me.
Because you see.
I have no preference, I just cut
Them all
A beard today, a carotid tomorrow.
It really goes to the closest bid
Or perhaps the biggest today.
What to do
What to do?
Cut his jugular, or her eyelashes?
Either way I'll sleep restless today
For the hunger never ends.
And so I do a little of both.
And if I can't do that I do whatever
Feels the best when I do it.
Everything I do is precise, clean, And oh so stylish to add.
When I draw,
They'll forever know the name
Doctor Barber
It’s like playing cards...
Sometimes you are dealt a bad hand. Whatever game you are playing, you have to play it (even if. like in poker, it means you have to fold).
When faced with a hard decision between two hard choices that both suck, there are a few things you can do...
Do they both suck in the short-term and the long-term, or just one or the other. Personally, if the pain is just short-term either way, I change it to play the long game.
If both are hard no matter the term, you have 3 choices...
Choose option A, with a smile and live with it.
Choose option B, with a smile and live with it.
Do nothing and most likely let a decision happen outside of your control.
That said, some encouragement.
I have had played the game of life long enough to have had to play my fair share of proverbial no-way-to-win hands...
...on a few occasions, I ended up 'winning' regardless.
...others, I did indeed lose in the short-game, but won big in the long-game.
...others still. I just lost. And it sucked. Sometimes you have to learn how to lose. Learn the sting of it. And hopefully whatever wisdom you gain from the experience is an adequate consolation prize.
Good Luck! For sometimes, luck is all you have to bet on.
