Remembrance
Bruises blossom across milk-white skin
Dark indigo flowers, blooming
Purple petals opening, unfurling
Spotted orchids scattered across a landscape of snow
Splotches of night-dark paint
The deep shifting colors of twilight blue
When the dusk creeps in
Clouds wraiths across the face of the moon
Dripped on by a brush of bone
A thousand shades of a single color
Muted as eyes filled with screams
Lavender deepening to livid plum
It's violet vivid against a wash of cream
Tears coming, never slipping down
Gathering into still and shadowed pools
Silent seas of forest green
And endless pain behind rustling leaves
Abandoning Life
Rippling tide tickled in
Foam cream embellished
frothing the creature
embraced within
curiosity piloted me
toward sodden shape
kissed by eddies
bathed by ocean tears
dusted with cinnamon sand
bedecked by sea creatures
flecks of sea worn shells
I extended my hand
to brush off the grains
recoiled in horror
threw caution to wind
excised the seaweed
sheltering his nose
pale lifeless eyes
resigned to fate
abandoning life
fearing its pursuit
too titanic to swim
through his misery
tide flowed out
taking the flotsam
the dregs of his life
leaving no traces.
I wondered with pain
if he had drowned
but my pith
sank with certainty
suicide with the tide.
The End
Dark, glossy ink
flows over the broken ground
propelled by the smoke
and the dark figures above
Crackling screams flood the air:
the trumpets of death
hail the burned cages
of past intelligence
Those cages that grin
at the irony of their end
and stare at their solution
meant to end the war
The bloody ink slips over them
slowing as it goes
darkening cages
before moving on
But it, too, dies, slowly hardening
until finally the screams tire,
and even the glossy feathered Raven
falls to the ground
The pulse silently slows
with the beat of the last Raven’s heart
and as she falls to the earth
there is no more
Congratulations.
You ended the war.
Eternal peace.
