Watermelon slices
Messy faces of summer
Seeds lead path to fall.
I slink in the shade
But teased by fun under sun
I blister and fade
Sauna without walls
Twinkling fairy lights hang. And,
Dewy skin tastes sea
School can't get me now
No homework to hold me down
Free to write all night
Lighting strikes the sun
Silent thunder screams wonder
Summer's surrender
Trying to stay cool,
no hurry to get to school,
lazy in the pool.
sun and saltwater
shimmer off my sand-scraped skin
slide my suit aside...
You and me singing
at night with the cicadas
A cake between us.
Salty summer air
Lying on the sandy shore
Time means nothing here
The late night camp fires,
stargazing, and barbeques
are what I live for.
