The Ending Was the Beginning

Imperfection burrows deeply into my watery soul

seeping out under the seaweed in sanguine drops.

I cling to the lowered rope dangling above my reach,

capsized emotions overwhelmed in torrential seas,

iron weight on my shoulders as I gulp fistfuls of air.

Darkness creeps in, a waterlogged knot around throat.

I feel the redemptive sands as butterscotch moon

reaches down offering me sanctuary in golden arms -

shining promise of one more minute, one more chance.
