“I love you”
Although I knew it was coming
Hard and fast
It still hit me
With the pounding resonance of a skipping stone across silent waters
And
If the butterflies could sting with quill tips
And flood my belly with honey lava
The blue butane flame could tear through my veins
And pink my cheeks
And burst my pupils into fireflies of
Chords in Major 7 painted out on nylon strings
You swelled me tight with buttered scotch
And spiced cider
And told me straight
I would taste the notes of those
Three intoxicating words
Every single moment of
Every single day
For the rest of
Our Life
Aurora
Like a summer fling, the sun stopped flirting and left without saying goodbye. The dark sauntered back to town, beautiful and unforgiving. With it came the green glow on the cold nights. At first I ignored its temptations and clung to the comfort of my cabin, the warmth of my wood stove. But one clear night, I heard the subtle green glow singing to me. I stepped into the dark and listened for its song. I followed its hum and when I found it, the green glow was dancing. I leaned against the boulders, watching, too entranced to interrupt. It stole the sky and shined bright. Realizing it was no longer alone it reached out to my childlike wonder, inviting me to join. It had been too long since we enjoyed one another’s company and so we danced, we jumped, we whistled and hollered. I laughed, it smiled its purple grin, and I was embraced by a hug from the lights.
Blue From My Senses
With my fingers, I feel soft, worn denim jeans.
With my ears, I hear waves crashing, rain pounding my window.
With my nose, I smell the air of a crisp, winter breeze.
With my tongue, I taste a waterfall.
With my eyes, I see the ocean, sky, and my own eyes in their beautiful blue-grey.
