Number 19
Everyone depended on #19
This droid was not human, but in a world that was only getting more and more dangerous #19 was there to support you.
Each day the droid processed and hard-drived
Each day metal joints clanked to carry the heavy load
Everyday steel arms shielded the Innocent
Everyday cold metal lips smiled in humility
Today #19 is as always, thankful.
However One day.
There was #20. New and Shiny.
By the ton did #20 carry heavy loads
By the handfuls did #20 deliver criminals
By swift convenient intelligence did #20 win Hearts
and so there #19 Sat; asleep.
Each day he processed less
Each day his metal joints rusted
Everyday Innocents mocked his weak Arms
Everyday yet he smiled as always he had; lips still warm
For #19 knew what he was thankful for.
Love or Death
I hold your hand tightly
As if my grasp can keep you from falling away, from leaving me
I stare into your eyes, and I remember
I remember the nights lying on a blanket of quiet and fallen leaves in the park by your house
How you made funny faces and told me random little secrets you’d never told anyone before
And how you made me feel like I had everything and yet had nothing to lose
You were the only one who could tease me, without it feeling like an attack
Your words, however crude, were always precious to me
And even more so now
When I see the light slipping from your eyes when you look at me
When you whisper, “I’m sorry”
And turn your back, leaving me
