Revenge of the sith (review!)
Hello everyone! So, I know that many of you think that this movie isn't very good, but I must disagree. Not only will I give my final overall grade on this film but I will also explain why it's actually a GREAT film. Wish me luck lol!
Screenwriting: 6
Acting: 8
Special effects: 10
Story: 10
Action scenes: 10
Summary- Ok! So I know that the writing isn't very good, but just about all other aspects of this film are really good. I gave the acting an 8 because Hayden actually did a very good job portraying Anakin Skywalker. Ewen McGregor is always great, and so is the majority of the other actors. Where it loses points is with Natalie Portman's portrayal of padme. She's a great actress, but she couldn't make an ok script sound great. As for the special effects, do I need to say anything? I mean com on! They are truly fantastic! Especially for a film that was made in 2002. The story was great and the action scenes, especially the lightsaber duels, are some of the best in Star wars history.
Defending the movie- some people say that anakin's turn to the Darkside is too sudden and unbelievable. But, to me, if you think that way then you weren't paying attention. First off, the ENTIRE prequel trilogy had been building up to the very moment they Anakin says, "I'll do whatever you ask". First, you have to understand and remember that Anakin was a slave! If American history teaches us anything, then we all know that slavery was the worse. Next thing Anakin knows, he's leaving his mom behind to become a Jedi, a decision that would go on to haunt him for years. Then, in the next movie we see Anakin having nightmares about his mom's death and they got so bad that he had to go and find her. In one of the most emotional scenes in Star wars history, anakin's mother says her final goodbye and she dies in his arms. Ok now this is REALLY important. There are some people out there who criticize Anakin turning so quickly and these people point to the fact that he he killed younglings. But guess what, HE'S KILLED KIDS BEFORE! Remember that scene were Anakin's mom dies in his arms? What happened right after that?? In a hate filled furry, he kills ALL the sand people in the village. Here's quote from attack of the clones, "I killed them, and not only the men, but the women, and the children." Oh, what's that? Did he say CHILDREN!? yes he did! He's killed kids before. All Anakin wanted was to save padme's life and he was willing to sacrifice anything.
Ok so there's my review, I hoped you all liked it!:)
Very bad Signs.
An alien species with technology far beyond our own decides to invade Earth. They travel light years to reach our globe, with the intent of killing all of humanity.
But here is the catch- they can be killed by water. Yes, regular water. So, when picking a world to invade out of the millions in space, they pick the Earth. It's over 60% covered in oceans. The atmosphere over the planet is water vapor, with white fluffy clouds of water droplets, just waiting to rain down water on the surface. All life on this world are bags of mostly water. The sentient species is so dependent on water to survive we invented this thing called "plumbing" to bring water to us wherever we are.
And yet, this is the world they pick to invade.
And how do they invade? Do they stay in the safety of their spaceships and just spread a toxin in the air? or beam down robots? Or create gigantic monsters with sharp teeth to tear us apart? Or a trillion pretty butterflies with razor-blade wings?
No. They beam down for hand-to-hand combat.
They at least are wearing waterproof suits, and fight with laser guns, right?
No, they are stark naked, and fight with knives.
That would be like humans sending a manned mission to Venus that is, well, naked and caring knives.
Not only that, these advanced alien ships have to communicate with each other using CROP CIRCLES!! They don't have iPhones? ham radios? walkie-talkies? telegraphs? tin cans on strings?
M. Night Shyamalan seems to bat pretty much 50-50. If it's good, it is very good, if it is bad, it is very bad.
Signs was very bad.
"I see naked aliens!"
Complex Society
One of my all time favorite book series is The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart. Stewart creates a nice paced book about four children with varying abilities, ages, and backgrounds that are put into a world of adventure, mystery, and danger.
Following the story of Reynie Muldoon, Kate Wetherall, George "Sticky" Washington, and Constance Contraire, The Mysterious Benedict Society captures many of the most important parts of a story perfectly.
In the first book, all four children respond to an add in the newspaper and end up helping a man name Nicolas Benedict, or just Mr. Benedict. They are tasked with the mission of joining the Learning Institute for the Very Enlightened (L.I.V.E.) where they will attempt to stop Ledroptha Curtain from brainwashing the world through television and radio transmissions. They are faced with riddles, puzzles, and challenges that test their abilities and friendship.
Beyond the interesting plot, well written puzzles and riddles, and just overall lovely feel of the children's adventure/mystery book, lies my favorite part of any story: character.
All four children bring different abilities to their group.
• Reynie is a problem solver- he can find ways to solve any riddle, puzzle, or conundrum put before him.
• Kate is prepared for anything- she carries a bucket with her that contains anything she could ever need inside, from ropes to magnets to a spy glass disguised as a kaleidescope, not to mention her agility, dexterity, and stamina.
• Sticky remembers everything and anything he has ever read or heard, thus the name Sticky- morse code, useless facts, childhood instances, he remembers all of it.
• Finally Constance, perhaps the most complex, she has the ability to come up with rhymes and poems with the bat of an eye, stubborn, intelligent- she is later revealed to have some mental powers, reading thoughts, changing minds, but everything links back to her ability to see patterns. She can predict whether it will rain or not depending on patterns she has noticed subconsciously on other days before it rained- as one example of what patterns help her with.
They all have complex backgrounds, from living in an orphanage, being orphaned and joining a circus, running away from seemingly unloving parents, or not remembering a background at all.
Stewart effectively captures human nature, interactions, and how to make engaging characters the reader cares about. Even side characters such as SQ became endearing by the end of the story.
Throughout all three books, Stewart presents original story, beautiful characters, and an overall fantastic read no matter your age.
(Don't get me started on the Prequel- I could be here all day.)
Stewart also wrote a book of puzzles and riddles so the readers can try out solving some things on their own.
Overall, for anyone who loves puzzle solving, perfectly sculpted characters, and engaging plots, I would highly recommend this series.
