In honor of Samhain...

Halloween, as many of you probably know, is based on the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. It was believed that it was this time of the year, when earth was dying and readying to be reborn later in Spring, that the barrier between our world and the other world - the home of the faeries, was its thinnest. Your story can be about Samhain or the Aos Si (or faeries). It should be a little scary or creepy, (but can be funny too),, because although they were called the "good folk" (and they could be) they were often mischievous and sometimes downright frightening. For best results, I recommend Googling ancient Celtic beliefs of Samhain, Aos Si, or Sidhe. There were many different types and I'd love to read everyone's take on these interesting creatures of myth and ancient Celtic festivities. Have fun1

Chapter 12 of 44

The “good” folk

They are restless again, the good folk

It is soon their time,

And I can see that they are thirsty

For single-malt, and agony.

Why, I was woken up

By one of them just last night.

He was sitting on top of the fridge,

And demanded that I set the clock ,

Which was glowing in it’s zeros and defaults..

That one made his wishes clear

By beeping in abandon.

Another let me know the toner was "empty",

Yeah, right, as if.

Still another of those fearies ,

Got into the washer,

Started his own dance club.

I wish it was only me,

But those guys spare no one.

The bitchy lady from the 16′th

got stuck going up

For two hours,

Until the doors opened for her.

But the worst, the absolute worst is

how fast and loose these guys

Get with my cellphone,

How they monkey around with the spelling.

I hope these things will pass,

After we sacrifice to them,

I can take it for a few more weeks, sure.

But what if those “good” folk keep at it after that?
