MORNINGS
Some mornings in the mirror
As I sit and I reflect
The crystal ball may have the answers
For why I don’t see what I expect
Most days, I am the fairest
I don’t even have to ask
But somedays what’s in the mirror
Just appalls me as I pass.
I could refuse to take a glimpse
I could pass by without a peek,
Then, tonight I will catch-up
On much-needed beauty sleep
Aging
Walking into a thrift store and seeing toys I played with behind glass and marked as antiques.
The children I used to be a nanny for in my 20’s,
now they are grown, one is in the service, one is getting married and one is married with two children of her own.
I remember my mother complaining because she got an AARP membership letter at 50. We laughed and teased her about it. She barely made it over 61
and now I’m getting the letters to join.
Oh well the world has turned
And I did yearn for a life
But once I learned how hot the sun doth burn
I stopped in sadness and just let
Life
Go.
Society
There are things you can not change.
Some things you wish to fix,
Some awareness you wish to raise.
All I have for you is this-
Our society is based not on your knowledge, but on your ignorance.
"Ignorance is bliss" they say...Well they aren't entirly wrong. Sometimes it hurts to be the enlightened one, the weight of the knowledge pushing down on you like a foot on a bug.
But screw everyone else. I'm okay with holding the burden for now. If my knowledge saves someone eventually, then it will all have been worth it. The Names, The Taunts, The Fights. Nothing will stop my pursuit of knowledge.

Adulting
“Just get it done.”, I say it a lot
No one seems to listen
It’s not difficult to plot
Look at the thing, what needs to be done?
Don’t overthink it
Simply look how it’s run
I’ve been doing this for others since I was a child
I’ve had it by now
Can I stop for awhile?
When you ask me to help you, I finish it fast
When I ask you
It’s too hard of a task?
Is it because you don’t see things as clearly as me?
The whole, not the parts?
The spaces between?
How can I explain it, teach it to you
Calm down and look
It's not that hard to do
I hear and acknowledge all the woes that you face
Life still marches on
It's a parade, not a race
So put one foot forward and the other besides
Don't fret and don't falter
Keep steady your strides
For we'll end up there one day, regardless of how
If you can't dig in your heels
Then get off of the plow
