Heroes Are Overrated
Growing up, I never wanted to be the hero in my own story
The whole idea seemed absurd to me
Heroes can't exist in a world that idolizes them
A real hero must exist in a world in which he is considered to be an outlaw
Someone that upsets the very foundation of the establishment
Kind of like Batman, which is why his face is tattooed on my leg
Growing up, I wanted to be an antihero
Somebody reluctantly thrust into something he had no business being involved in, but he made it work
Maybe he didn't want to save lives, but he still did it for the sake of the greater good
Maybe he drank, or smoked, or ate fattening food
But he still answered his calling, even if he hated what his calling was
Maybe that's why I became a writer
Or rather, maybe I always was one
It isn't the type of thing people aspire to, not really
People aspire to have the same fame or fortune as some of the greats, perhaps
But nobody ever wakes up and volunteers to sit at a blank document on a computer screen for hours upon hours
Writing a thousand words, deleting most of them, and ending the day no closer to done than they started
Because that isn't what people think of when they think of writing
They all see heroes
But writers aren't heroes
They're the antiheroes
