Why do you feel like you have to act like this around me?

You filter out words, sentences, looking me in the eye but not talking,

Deciding which words to keep

Before you speak.

I try to impress you, try to make you enjoy my company. 

I feel so stupid, with you right next to me

I sputter out phrases and try to get some empathy

Telling bad jokes to make you like who I try to be.

Why are we both so fake?

Maybe if we were real, we'd laugh at our mistakes

Instead, we drown each other in sweetness

Hiding our real persona, as if we're more than this. 

I've faked with you so much

That I don't even know 

Who I am anymore.

You've played the game, too

And you're just

As confused.

When you put something you've worked so hard on out in the world, it's a bit hard to thicken your skin fast enough to let the bad opinions bounce off you.

Lucky for me, I learned years ago.

A bad review is usually from someone who either has a great critique or someone who goes off on The deep end and begins talking about shit that doesn't matter.

You can't expect every book to be War and Peace. That's now how it works. Creativity in every single one of us is different. If it wasn't, everything would be the same.

So to the haters (or one in particular), I say:

Put your heart on a platter and give it to the world...

Let's see how it plays out for you.

His whisper

glistens upon her lips

Intoxicating tincture

As a wise patient once told me,

"I want credit for each of my years on this planet."

I no longer lament my age

or wish to regain my youth

There is a wisdom that comes with age,

and an empowerment to owning it

Up late,

Watching scary movies,

Eating too much candy,

Dreaming of zombies,

And loving it.
