The tap stops dripping,

My anxiety stops stressing,

The Earth stops turning,

Clouds stop moving,

Winds stop whispering,

And all that I can focus on

is your smile that keeps growing,

your hair that keeps falling over your eyes,

my heart that keeps beating,

our lungs that keep breathing,

and your hand that tightens around mine...

Pain bubbles to the surface.

Alone again, and the realization,

Stalled by quarantine and riots,

Bowls over me like a freight train.

Alone again, and there's no relief,

Never relief until the final straw,

Caught before it falls to the floor.

Until then, until you return

For whatever reason, I am stuck

Bending under a stick, waiting.

Yet, even when my legs shake,

Even when I'm blinded by tears,

Even when gravity pulls at me,

I stay in position indefinitely

Because having my friend around

Makes all this pain worth it.

It feels like time slows down for a moment right before it ends...

When we're together,

We forget all the wrong things that happen around us.

When we're together,

You shine brighter than the sun itself on a sunny day.

When we're apart,

I break down as if you were the pillars of my self-proclaimed strong heart.
