Litmus test
Justice is blind
People are not
They judge
Prior to having facts
Trial decided
Upon first glance
So put on your suit and tie
Get the best lawyer money can buy
And sit back and relax
Unless of course
You can't
Or you happen to be black
Then well
Spin the roulette wheel
And hope
You can pass their test
Absolute
I see decisions made
in those eyes of yours
when the glares
make your enemies crumple, punishments given
in the words
that deliberately cut,
the sentences that amplify
your disapproval
and paint pictures out of blood rushing from those you target. Expressions create images
of the final blows
and chisels carving
into headstones,
of coffins lined with nails
as shovels bore through dirt,
we give the signal
for you to start
digging our graves
and our lives
turn into chess games
when the gavel hits the wood
and we're led away
in chains.
Silence is golden
when you find a time to rest,
and yet it speaks volumes
all on its own,
because your actions
and reactions
and what you never do at all
spark a feeling
more than terror
and no less than desperation,
while the rest of us dance
like ballerinas in a
twisted Cinderella
waiting for our prince
to whisk us away
from the decisions
that are
absolute.
Justice
What is Justice?
Justice is equality, fairness, a level playing field and impartiality. Justice is something that we aspire to in our courts of law, in the workplace and in our lives.
Justice is a system invented by man whereby wrongs may be put right, for only human beings are supposed to have a sense of right and wrong. But, having said all this, does Justice actually exist? That's a very difficult question to answer is it not?
Is it Justice if it can be bought? No, but you can buy a version of corrupted Justice if you have the readies, and a version of corrupted Justice is to all intents and purposes real Justice isn't it? No it isn't, but it happens doesn't it dear Prosers? Surely, if we employ a system of laws that can turn a blind eye to corrupt Justice, then the system is broken, and if the system is broken can true Justice be served?
Of course it can't.
Is true Justice an eye for an eye? It may seem so, but it isn't. Is it Justice if half the world has so much food that it discards huge amounts every single day, while others fight for scraps?
On a personal level I gaze out into a corrupted and decaying society that clings to its false promises on a dying world that struggles to cope.
Justice? Don't make me laugh.
Justice is Blind
Themis stands in the courtroom with her eyes blindfolded, one hand holding a sword, the other holding the scale of justice. The lawyer of the prosecutors finishes his opening statement and sits down. The defendant's lawyer stands up to begin his, but all the defendant can think of is the pain the family of the victim has endured. No matter how many times he would plead innocent, no one would listen. No one cared. They wanted him locked up and out of harm's way. In their eyes he was a danger to society and should be put in prison for life. He needed to learn his lesson. He needed to realize that he is a monster. He wasn't allowed to be forgiven of his fault. He wasn't allowed to be seen as equal with every other person on Earth. He was a menace, an wicked psychopath stuck in his ways of violence. The projects hadn't made him like this. They had only given him a platform from which to build upon. Yet they swore by the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. All the while, justice is blind.
Justice, To Be or Not To Be?
Does Justice exist?
First lets define Justice as well as Just, since that is the root word of Justice.
Justice: 1. The quality of being just. 2. The rendering of what is due or merited; also that which is due or merited. 3. Conformity to the law;legal validity: a code of justice. (Taken from Funk & Wagnalls Standard College Dictionary)
Just: 1. Fair, evenhanded, and impartial in acting or judging. 2. Adhering to high moral standards; upright; honest. 3. Morally right; equitable. ... 7. True; correct; accurate... (Taken from Funk & Wagnalls Standard College Dictionary)
No can we say that Justice exists? Or that this world, this society, this country is Just? Is this world Fair? No, life's not fair, we've seen that; and if life, which is contained in the world, is not fair, then how can he world be fair? Is this country morally right or equitable (1. Marked by equity; impartially just, fair, and reasonable.)? No, morality has, for the most part, departed, that should be fairly obvious. Equability is on the way out; no one can truly impartially judge. Is this world True? No, lies are everywhere, they've infected all of the world. Is this world adhering to high moral standards? No, we've already been over that.
Does Justice exist?
I think Justice exists in a very small amount; it's there, but it's weakening. Injustice is on the rise and what was once considered Justice is now considered Injustice. This country, this society, this world isn't Just, it manages to dish out some Justice, and things that resemble Justice but really are biased and lop sided, but at the core justice is elusive to mankind.
