Proclamation
A seed grows
Expands
Life building within the
Comfort of the womb
But it soon announces
Its intention
To emerge into the light
A pause of expectation
Turns to realization as
The water breaks
The contractions come
One followed by another
Closer now
Push, push
Both baby and mother dancing to the
Unrelenting forces of nature
The crown emerges
A scream of pain
And delight
Again, push, push
Each breath labored
But with focus, a direction
And with a sudden shot
The head comes through
The baby emerges fully
Into the light
A new jewel in the
Beauty of the world
And its first cry
A proclamation of
A new beginning
time:
it is a sunrise in a time lapse video
happening impossibly fast--
an intrepid passing of moments
escalating with
butter yellow warmth over my
shin bones and then
an explosion! of life!
roses blooming inhumanly
quick, unfolding like a person
opening his palms to feel
the rain drop or the
tender kiss of the sunshine,
opening in the span
of seconds that are days!
minutes that are weeks!
and months!
a roaring!
a great, hallowed roaring!
onward! onward! onward!
cresting the waves of day
and night and
slamming this ship of
selfness and peopleness--
humanity
across the earth!
continuous!
forever! forever! forever!
it is a great and harrowing
passing of days in
fast-forward!
like the open and close
of
god's great and blinking
eyes.
