underneath it all
And somewhere in the back of my mind a thought was roaming around, a question really. If I was here… then where was he? Was he looking for me? Probably… but apparently he couldn’t right now. He must be furious…
And in a different place…
There was smoke on the ground, a strange white smoke that lingered on the ground, twisting itself around his ankles, almost as if licking his feet in pure mockery. He looked up at the empty space, where just a second before the girl stood. And now the smoke and the odd vibrations were the only evidence of her existence here. He still looked around dazed, almost as if expecting her to reappear.
The moment she drunk the so called cure… the whole bottle, he knew it wouldn’t end in a good way. The consequences were just a matter of time. Well, now he knew… And still the reaction of it all still surprised him. The power of it, the size of the catastrophe… he did not expect that… when the realization of it all hit him, he started to swear heavily under his breath. Squirming like a snake in a steel cage, crashing everything in eyeshot. How did this happen, he was so cautious with her?!
She was his prisoner, and still he treated her like the bloody royalty… every little convenience she requested, he complied. He got her a freaking mattress for hells sake!
Never in his 2000 years of heavy existence, he did not have to entertain a human, and what a human she was… he really tried to keep her safe just as he was ordered to do… and still every time he took eyes off her, she was in trouble, hurting herself … there were times when he thought she did it on purpose.
A thought was punching at him, pocking… making holes in his stubbornness. He gave a heavy sight. It wasn’t really her fault… all those “accidents” were his doing. He got in a fight with another demon… she felt of a cliff, he told her too much… she almost bleeded out through her hands… he took too much time off, leaving her unwatched … and another demon showed up, the one he was fighting with on the cliff… and she almost got killed… after telling him to go right ahead and kill the “more” evil demon.
He shook his head, the realization hitting him like a fist to his stomach. It was painful and irritating at the same time. Well, the only thing to do now was to find her before anyone else would. She was up there, unprotected from the danger that lay ahead. Right now he wasn’t the most dangerous “thing” that could happen to her. There were many others, who wouldn’t even blinked or think twice before killing her… a strange shiver run down his spine. This was very unlike him… to worry… ugh, what a disgusting word… an emotion… the word brought nausea to his insides.
He shook his head again, at the same time trying to shake of the feeling that was bothering him so much…Unprotected… that wasn’t entirely true to the fact. Until the medicine didn’t wear off, she was more or less fine… but when it did… there was no rescue for her. There were many demons, just itching to get their “hands” on her, though probably claws would be more appropriate here.
He tried to focus, so he could feel her essence, the energy that make her who she was. Every human on Earth was different, special. End she wasn’t an exception to this rule… she only further proved it, by being even more exceptional. Her so called aura, was truly unique. It stood out, where others faded in to the ordinary…
He closed his eyes, trying to find that specific energy. Normally he didn’t have any problems with that. He was tuned to her, almost like a radio station. Always knowing where she was. It was the simplest thing in the under-world. He spend so much time with her, that he could find her with his eyes closed … and that’s what he did.
His eyes closed, his focused centered on her. Just a moment more, and he would have her… his mind searched the universe for her. Knocking on every mental door possible… just few more moments… shock filled him… it didn’t work! Ugh, this just didn’t work… nothing, absolutely nothing, just pure silence. This was not possible… nothing ever stopped him before.
This wasn’t the time to fail, this was the time to triumph…
It was like hitting a wall… he could feel the pressure… damn it!
He was losing… he took a deep breath… it felt strange to need such a breath… if he waited long enough… he would hit right in the middle… just between the medicine wearing off… and it still working… he was going to win her back. “Win her back” hmm… the thought unsettled him, like her life acutely mattered… like he wanted her to survive… very odd, very odd indeed.
Where was she now? What was she doing… was she alright? Why did it matter? She possessed the strangest kind of magic, he had ever experienced…
And did not want to admit…
He concentrated even harder… pushing himself against the mental wall she put up… he could almost hear a click… a “door” had just opened… just slightly… but he took a chance and wedged his foot in it… hmm… there you are, and you sure know how to fight the system, darling.
It’s time to save you from yourself.
And on a higher floor…
It’s been a while, she didn’t expect to have so much time… but she sure wasn’t complaining about it. She could feel the powers wearing off… well, they were still there in every fiber of her body, vibrating inside of her… but they were subsiding. If it was a good thing or a bad one, she couldn’t tell. Mixed emotions confusing her. She absolutely loved being outside… and yet, she didn’t like to be alone. Well, there were other people on the beach… not a lot really, but still they were there.
And yet she didn’t feel like talking to anyone. She didn’t even consider leaving the beach to search for some hide away. She was happy right here, sitting on the sand and looking at the sea… she knew he would find her eventually… and still, she didn’t move from the spot. Hmm… almost as if she was waiting for him, expecting him…
This was one sick relation that’s for sure.
She pushed the anxieties away, hiding them in the deepest part of her, letting the joy overwhelmed her again. It was amazing how easily it was now to change her emotions. Almost like having a light switch, on and off… bright and dark. She no longer had to think about it. Whatever mood she chose… it just happen. And right now she was choosing happiness… summer breeze, she did loved it here…
Something changed, the wind blew stronger changing its direction… filling the air with vibration… like electricity… like the moment before the storm came… and lightning…
he found her
And there she was… he knew it was just a matter of time… losing wasn’t in his nature. He looked at her back and narrowed his eyes… she seemed at peace, just sitting there on the sand… how odd… he almost felt out of place. Like the rescue was not necessary… as if she just moved on to a normal human life. He didn’t know what he expected, when he found her… but as sure this wasn’t it.
She turned her head to the side, showing off her profile… he forgot how she looked in the day light… something twisted inside of him… probably sore muscles. She seemed to sense him, because her expression changed. She got up, pushing off the sand of her jeans. And then she turned back, looking at him, not really surprised. She shaded her eyes from the sun, with her hand… she smiled… humans were odd creatures indeed.
It took you a while… - she said, the smile still on her face.
Pure good is hard to find – he said calmly.
Well, you found me now – she said coming closer.
Yes, even though you keep sabotaging my efforts – he responded, not moving.
I’m just trying to live… you can’t really blame me for it?
Oh, I can…

GIRL NEXT DOOR
He was mysterious,
in a strange and sneaky way.
He had a job to do,
With very little to say.
She was in the house next door.
She never knew she was a hit.
She goes to work comes home.
He knew he had to do it.
Watching her every day was really
beginning to change,
His mind, his soul, his feelings,
his emotional membrane.
But a job had to be done,
and it was only for one.
His thoughts wouldn't come,
For her, he tried to shun.
A beauty beyond all,
he ever had to kill.
For just that day only,
He wished the world stood still.
For her world was about to change,
to something other than worse.
All he saw was her beauty,
for this would be her curse.
Just before he closed her eyes
for the final time.
He cried, he lied, he resisted.
They enjoyed their poisonest wine.
