Styrofoam
Not exciting, bland and weak,
A function I serve,
Though only temporarily.
Immense damage
To the environment, I cause.
Those poor birds, and fish,
Choking on the discraded mess.
Let us hope that soon ,
This waste of packing material,
Stuck inside boxes,
But never outside,
Will be replaced
With something more :
More friendly,
More colorful,
More substantial,
More economical,
More lively.
And that’s all.
me, defined
I am suggested, implied
Rather than defined
An identity that never sticks
A relative state of mind
But I relate, associate
See only through green eyes
Stay in the moment, capturing images
The future, a surprise:
For now
I define myself through the tree in the backyard
An oak, massive and tall
Long, tangling roots defining its age
The worry that it could fall
I define myself through spring weather
The sneezing and the breeze,
The crisp crunch of lightly fallen snow
And fiery hue of autumn leaves
I define myself through my dreams -
My goals and the sights I see asleep
I define myself through the people around me
And the secrets I cross my heart to keep
I define myself through Telka
My little author’s voice
Who can speak the words in her head
Through her creative choice
A few things
That came to mind
When I see what myself could be
Defined
Physical things
That I can see
The kind, welcoming person
I’m determined to be
