Wafting Joy
A spring breeze cradles the hair on my arm
Birds greet a shining sun with a melodious song
I get a message from friend not seen in so long
As I read it I sip cocoa to brush away the chill
At a bakery wafting joy through crisp morning air
It's a tonic to the doldrums, to light the way
And remind my grumpy self to cherish the day
Not Coming Back
She’s not coming back for sure
The door slammed like a hammer on a nail
My bleeding heart sliding down the gutter
The world comes down with it into darkness
I wonder where to begin again, is it possible?
After so much disappoinment pooling like blood
from a solider shot on the battlefield of love
Is there a doctor to treat this great infection,
To medicate it with hope and great courage
So that I may see tomorrow through this red haze
And wake from the pain to reach for better days
Eyes open
Eyes open in the haunting moonlight
Terror soaks the sheets in the night
A twitch and a spasm spread so fast
Growl and hiss lead to a howl at last
Gnashing teeth hunger for mortal blood
A crash through the window into the mud
Scamper up the hill in search of juicy prey
Better find a feast before the light of day
Hero
Amidst ignorant screams, someone we long for
Not too perfect, we imagine being him or her
Nor too flawed, we reach for light in the dark
A rapid rise from humble, hard circumstance
With booming voice to quiet evil and inspire love
And a heart beating with the passion of a nation
Come to us, your moment is now
Gone
Like lightning singes the tip of your nose
And a siren wails to shake from head to toes
The tug from beyond can’t be tamed - can’t be stopped
The moment you’re walking in a self-burdening bubble
Then a poison needle stabs down in a sickening pop
Blind eyes crack open to see what was never dreamed
Gone before his 25th birthday, water quenched his flame
Life vanishes in a blur, only capricious fate to blame
Squash
happiness, you're something that comes and goes
I have to stand tall to reach you on my toes
So damn fickle, ready to choose someone else
The moment I think about you, you stick out your tongue
And off you go to start another person's fun
You're a cruel thing, ready to crush my dreams
A sadistic smile knows all is not what it seems
When I find you, I'll squash you like a bug
So we'll all be the same - equally unhappy
Ghost Stallions
The queen of the forest had only one rule:
Don't pet the ghost stallions on the northern thule
They were a gift from the west barbarians, you see
Destined to roam the lands so fast and free
Never felt hunger, never felt a touch of fear
They waited faithfully until a midnight so clear
In their master would wander with golden gear
And he rode them into an underworld drenched in despair
To show the Lost how the magical beasts lived without a care
