Goodbye
The 6th of may
She passed away
Holding her sister’s hand
With her dog in her lap
She crossed the gap
And went to the other side
At the school dance
We thought no chance
That she would die of cancer
At age 13
She stopped messaging
I thought she'd forgotten me
When in truth
She was a doomed youth
When leukemia cancer claimed her
I never got a chance
To tell her I forgive
I used to worry that it might have haunted her
But with time I realized
She probably did not think of the lies she told when she left this world behind
Over and over she made me promise
Before she moved away
Practically every day before she left
She made me promise not to forget
She said all her old friends forgot her when she moved away
I promised her every time
To never forget her
We were best friends
We just clicked
Sure we fought, oh boy did she cause drama
Yeah, her mom told her to stay away from me
I was not rich enough, I tarnished her reputation
We were in fifth grade
I promised I would not forget
All the time we spent laughing
So when people tell me to move on
I want to stab them
That time a wasp crawled into her sleeve
That time I was the only one she invited to her birthday party
That time we pretended to be drunk at the school dance
That time we made each other talk to our crushes
That time I talked in my sleep at the sleepover
That time we laughed until we cried
That time she told me her dad had died
He abandoned her, he choked on his own vomit
That time she lost her earring
That time we chickened out of the talent show
That time we did matching costumes at halloween
That time we cursed at her twin brother
That time she showed me to stand up for myself
That time she taught me not to let people push me around
That time she defended me against a bully
That time she taught me to walk with confidence
That time she taught me how to try
That time she taught me to be myself no matter what
I will not forget you
Goodbye
“Do not cry,”
She was knelt down behind a short stone wall, her hands covering her face as she let out quiet sobs, her long blond hair falling over her shoulders and helping cover her small face.
He peeked around the corner and looked at her, soon walking over to sit with the little girl.
“Still sad?” he asked quietly, making her pause her sobs to nod, “Do not cry, Catrina. Do not cry for those whos suffering has already ended.”
With those words he stood, leaving her looking through her hands at the cracked stone ground, silent tears streaming down her cheeks still. She reflected on the advice her boss had given, rethinking the event that had taken place twenty-seven hours before.
stellar
stars in his eyes
he doesnt know
that every night
i pray that they shine
for me
stars in his eyes
they twinkle so bright
that even the moon
is jealous that she
doesnt shed that
kind of light
"there's stars in your eyes"
he tells me and when
we make eye contact
supernovas take place
and i can feel it through
out my body
- so this is love?
