Paradise
Can I run away to a cabin?
On the top of a mountain?
Surrounded by fields of flowers?
I'll hide away above a dark forest
Shrouded in mist at daybreak
I'll sit around a warm hearth
A tabby cat purring on my lap
Peering out my rain- covered windowpane
To the colorful sky and valley below
Where the distant city lights are on display
Yet all the city can see of me
Is the curling smoke
Above the tall, green trees
And know that it comes from
Some mysterious chimney
Where I don't heed the daily calls of routine
Ah, Death
Unchanging, serene death
Cold, unforgiving death
Waiting at the corner of the street
At the bottom of the glass
At the top of a hill
In the branches of a tree
Death is the shadow that follows me through life
Waiting for the right moment to pounce
And pull me into the darkness
To be forever with him
Because life is just a flash
But death is here for all eternity
She sat across from me on a rickety wooden chair flicking her pocket knife open and closed. Suddenly, she stood and for a moment I saw the flicker of another face on her own. A face torn and bloodied from that dream long ago. Her eyes turned black and she dragged the knife along my throat and whispered, "Tell me what hell's like." The darkness enveloped me, then, I was back in the shadowy basement from moments before, yet it was different. I now stood above a girl tied to a chair with her throat slit. I looked at the bloody knife in my hand in horror when the dead girl opened her eyes and spoke, "You're the monster you search for." I blinked and once again saw her lifeless body before me, and suddenly remembered the ruined face one again. Although, I now knew, it was never a dream.
Come meet me in the summer sun
Under the shade of a sycamore
In the meadows of my dreams
Where the breeze tugs at your hair
And the flowers bloom at your feet
Come meet me in the fading sunset
Under the orange and pink sky
At the edge of a deep forest
Where the fog slips through the branches
And mossy rocks hide between the trees
Come meet me in the darkest night
Under the gleaming blanket of stars
On the rooftop above the city
Where the crisp wind stings your cheeks
And its just you and me
