Day Drinking
The bar is busy
Grouped sporadically in cliques
And at three o'clock on a Friday
The corporate drunks
Drinking scotch
With their loosened ties
And poorly sized blazers
And a couple of "regulars"
Boozing for real
A sixty-something female
With her purple hair
And Woodstock expression
And the frivolous tourists...
Doe-eyed and spirited
Drinking craft IPA's
Giggling over its 8%
Easy targets for an over-priced menu
And me...
Falling somewhere between local drunk
And corporate asshole
I skipped out early on my seminar
New wave holistic healthcare
Fuck me
At first, I was enthused
But I can only take so much:
"Aging is a choice..."
Huh?
Organic food
Organic yoga
"If you meditate..."
And everything with kale.
I couldn't get out of there fast enough
I debated, though--
They began to set-up happy hour treats
Is it worth staying for the free booze and food?!
And so, I left.
Just after the bearded a-cappella group finished
And now I sit here
With my bourbon beer
Bee Gees in the background
Waiting on my buffalo waffle fries
And I'm so fucking glad to be alone
Exhausted from reality
And from being a grown-up
Corporate America...
I want to paint this weekend
I NEED to write
And in-between
I'll get drunk
Hopefully, I'll get laid
And I will watch mindless Netflix
Exhausted from a pace to which I never agreed
And this bar...
Full of mid-day inspiration
The escapists and nobody's
We are all slowly dying
(Some quicker than others)
At least the ones here will be fed
And their thirst is quenched
Or is it?
With much action and determination
Let me assure you all that I did not let this
Cork on this very tasty bottle of wine
Get the best of me.
For a moment there I thought I wouldn't
get to have said wine for he wouldn't give up his cork, ahh but I do have a way with things and was able to finesse it out of his tight clutches. Hehe!
So fill to me the parting glass
Good Health and Joy be to ye all!
