betrayal
“What the hell did I do?!” He shouted the question, feigning innocence. But we both knew what happened.
The sweet taste of jelly and deceit still flooded his mouth, and sugar was still sprinkled on the front of his shirt.
He took from me what I most loved.
Never again would I be able to find a donut such as that one.
afar
A rose and a dandelion watch each other from afar.
The rose grows in a bush in front of a house, cared for by the old woman who lives inside.
The dandelion grows in a crack in the sidewalk, blooming a yellow as bright as the sun.
Though their distance was vast, they found their ways to communicate with each other. Short messages, carried on the wings of the bumblebees who gave them life.
ghosts
In ancient caves, there are ghosts. Their hands cover the walls, reaching high up to the ceiling.
Tiny handprints reach much higher than they could on their own, lifted up by people who loved them.
’We were here,’ cry the ghosts’ hands. ‘We were here, and we made art.’
‘We were here, and we loved each other.’
’We were here, and we were human too.'
