A Dance of Reverence
Her dress gleams with golden and orange hues
She moves with grace, beauty, and fury
The room brightens at her smile as she twirls across it
Too far to touch
Yet close enough to feel
She twirls her dress to the center of the room
Cascading light across the floor
Another dancer drifts towards her
Her dress steals the glimmer of light
Silver and gray refract the glint
Her white hair flows in grace with her dance
She moves with elegance and mystery
Two sisters move in unison, yet altogether different
She crosses in front of her sister and for a brief moment
The floor is hers
Her shadow falls over me and I am in wonder
She is close enough to touch if I reach out, yet somehow unreachable
Her shadow rolls across my face
And then, as suddenly as she appeared
She moves away from the floor
Her sister continues to twirl her dance of love and warmth and fury
And I am left intrigued
I am mesmerized
I am in awe
Infinity Hotel
Imagine a hotel
with an infinite amount of rooms
an infinite amount of guests
and no vacancy.
Now imagine a bus load of
(you guessed it)
infinite people
arriving at the highly reputed Infinity Hotel.
The dedicated hotel manager
fears not.
He requests that each guest
move from their current room
to their room number
doubled.
So the guest in room one moves to room two,
the guest in room thirteen moves to room twenty-six.
This empties all of the odd number of rooms
and allows the bus full
of infinitely many people
to occupy the oddly infinite rooms.
Thought experiment adopted from David Hilbert.
Origins of the Eclipse.
Long ago,
Two kingdoms at war.
The kingdom of the blazing sun-
Bright, warm, powerful.
The kingdom of the shining moon-
Cold, beautiful, strong.
After all the fighting was done,
The two sides made a truce
To rule by each other's side.
Sun and Moon, working as one.
The sun would rule the day,
The moon the night.
However, after many years of peace,
The moon grew tired.
And so, one day,
They overthrew the
Kingdom of the sun.
Their victory was short-lived.
The people of the sun,
Stronger than those of the moon,
Managed to take back their kingdom.
This uprising of the moon
Is reenacted every few years.
We call it...
The eclipse.
Forbidden Eclipse
'The sun loved
the moon so much
that he died
every night
to let her breathe.'
the beautiful forbidden lovers
never able to meet
to share warm kisses
but I remember the sneaky Moon
she sneaks out of her dark domain
I see her in bright daylight
swathed in the Sun's golden touch
opposite in the sky
they watch each other
with love so pure
although she is forbidden
in his bright domain
she is there
because she believes
that nothing is impossible
and the day comes
when they can meet
for but a few minutes
they embrace in fire
and we stare in wonder
as they meet
but then they must
drift apart
with broken hearts
she blows him kisses
whispers
'goodnight, my love'
as he sinks beneath the horizon
bursting into colors
and the Moon cries
and whispers
⠀⠀
'I love you.' ❋
