Never more
A bird’s sweet warble in the early morning light
The ability to walk unaided in the sunshine bright
The gift of sight
The company of loved ones, especially the older ones
Freedom – from fear, violence, dominance, loneliness
Love and laughter in our lives
All these I took for granted
Until life taught me otherwise
music
forget about all the words i'm about to write, just get the state of mind, little there is of it:
i go crazy over music.
it rips me apart,
today it was the prelude to ‘tristan and isolde’ , that i could not stop hearing ringing in my feeble and cracked head.
it gets worse, I geek out,
i’ve got my hands on recordings of lectures about music by leonard bernstein, titled ‘the unansweted question’ (i am fairly certain you can find them), and while much of it was not news to me, the way he ties things and explained passionately was just outstanding. his dissection of music through a linguistic prism was very interesting indeed. just a shame i had to constantly stop and start again, between my own lessons.
music that i listen, music that i don't even need to hear..
yesterday it was debussey, before that, beethoven, mozart.
oh god! i am going crazy again.
the humidity up, the exams i am doing with the kids, the taxi drivers that mysteriously find the worst rout to take.
it all pales.
it falls.
i cant wait to come home and hum the daily insanity to my baby, hoping, deseperately that she will find interest in the music.
it scares me. she was a fussy eater, what if she is a disibterested listener...
perhaps like Debussy’s faun, i fail to convey what is going through , how could I NOT Fail?
she prefers simpler fare,
no complexity,
no ambiguity,
no dissonance,
but she dances.
i didn’t even start in this post on Jazz, god help me.
maybe it’s the spring...
if i don’t drive her crazy about music, will she be driven crazy about music by herself?
how could she live a good life without this joyous madness?
anxious..
one-shot deal..
Less Needs to be More
The sun that shines,
The rain that falls,
The love each human shares,
It's hard,
The growth of wild flowers,
The buzzing of bumble bees,
It can easily all go away,
The clearness of fresh winter air,
The pets in our house,
The food on our tables,
The air we all breath,
The Tv we watch,
The transportation we have,
With a snap it can be no more,
Science,
Social studies,
Math,
English,
Gym,
Art,
If we didn't have it,
How would we progress?
The sun gives light,
The rain gives water,
Love gives hope,
Wild flowers give color,
Bumble bees give pollen and later on food,
Winter air gives clearness,
Pets give you someone to talk to,
Food keeps up full,
Air keeps us from suffocating,
Tv isn't needed but It keeps up from boredom,
Transportation keeps us from growing tired,
Science teaches us the way of the world,
Social studies teaches us history and without history mistakes repeat,
Math is disgusting but it expands our knowledge,
English teaches us how to write and without writing the would would be real,
Gym keeps up from growing fat,
Art keeps us spreading magic,
It can all go away,
Humans don't give thanks enough.
It’s The Little Things.
Ever wonder about the things we take for granted. Maybe even why we might take them for granted. I bet most of us don’t really give this a second thought. Sometimes when you do it can be too late.
Technology, wow so much we take for granted. We can write an email from just about anywhere. Who remembers writting letters? Cellphones, you can pick it up at any time and call a loved one or friend. It is nice to hear a friendly voice, so many text anymore. Sometimes it seems we get so wrapped up in technology that we rarely pay attention at a meal or when together.
Spending time with family and friends is something we take for granted. Since the pandemic has changed that. I feel more people have learned the importance of time since we had to quarantime. The little things of a hug on a bad day, a smile, laughing together. Even just hanging out and having a cold one. We don’t realize that we take these for granted until we are not able to do them.
Exporing and travel or road trips. We always think we have time to do these. Well there we go taking time for granted again. We can always take that trip. We can always go see the glaciers for example. Well they are going away. Don’t take time for granted get out and embrace your Wanderlust. Hike the damn mountain. Buy that plane ticket and just go. As they say time waits for no one.
The air we breathe and the water we drink, not to mention the food we eat have been taken for granted. Clean air we breathe we take for granted. Well until the day comes that you can’t breathe. When the air gets thick with smoke from forest fires. Then we appreciate a day with clean air. Having clean water we take for granted. There are places that don’t have clean water to drink and would probably love to have what we have. Even having water to wash the car and water our plants. Just little things we take for granted. Ever been to a farmers market and think for two second how much works it takes the farmers? Probably not, we just think cool, fresh fruits and vegetables.
So many other little things we take for granted. Going for a walk. Having a roof over our heads. Having a bed to sleep in. Having food to eat. The beautiful scenery around us. The roads we drive to get places. The bees that pollinate are plants and crops.
If we we all just stoped once in awhile and took it all in. Maybe we could appreciate all we have and be better people, kinder people. More willing to help others, share experience, reach out, help out. It is time we all started to remember and appreciate the little things.
“Handpicked Heirlooms”
I take keepsakes
Retouch and arrange tarnished
Precious memorabilia
A little silver bell
Turned brown well before I learned
A sterling finish doesn’t stay if it sits
Unused
A Goodacre Dollar
‘Presentation’ piece
Sakakawea and Jean Baptiste
Reverse, obverse dated
Wash-worn faces faded like varnished brass
Engraved in gold
A fleuron shining on
A broach
Saved for teatime all June’s life
A thimble which fits my pinky finger
Collected tokens tucked in the sky
Blue-velvet drawstring bag
Now steeping in the bright
Black-spotted kettle
I’ll never use to pour or brew
On account of how the metal smells
Still of Marlboro Reds
Even filled to the brim with white
Sage potpourri ~

Disguised blessings
It is only when I wake in thee mornings of my worst days that I realise everything we tend to take for grantd. On these bad days I find myself in prayer, writing my golden list to say thanks.
I usually start off thinking I wont exceed more then three items but to my suprice the little things we neglect are often not noticed and they come in abundance.
1) The breath that comes with ease.
2) Waking up to another day.
3) Basic needs.
4) New opportunities to look forward too.
5) God never left my side even when i left he's.
6) Being given a second chance to start over with each day.
7) Money.
8) Health.
9) Renewed strength.
10) Survivng another bad day.
11) Protection and love.
