Ode to Villano Beach
Let’s take a walk through ocean town
before sand erosion sucks it down
let’s wade waist deep into foaming waves
where 8,000,000 tons of plastic made its grave
let’s enjoy this day on the sandy shore
knowing 30 years from now it’ll be no more.
My fear of ocean
"Let's take a walk through an ocean town"
But I fear the ocean. It makes me feel small
"Let's take a walk through an ocean town"
No, please no
"Let's take a walk through an ocean town"
Fine. But promise not to push me in the ocean
"Let's take a walk through an ocean town"
Promise? Please.
"Let's take a walk through an ocean town"
Ok. Let's go
"Let's take a walk through an ocean town"
We're here. Hey, where did you go?
"Take a walk through the ocean town"
Just me? No. Wait. Is this what being born feels like?
"Just take a walk through the ocean town"
Please, no. You can't leave me here. I'll die
"We will all die someday"
I can't breathe, please!
Please
"You're just imagining your fears"
I am?
Yeah. You're probably right.
"Just go through it. You will be fine"
You're right. Okay. I'll meet you on the other side of the town?
"Maybe"
Fine. I'm fine. I'm just imagining my fears
Hey. I'm actually fine
No, please. Help me. I won't get through.
You're not here, are you?
I'm just letting my emotions take control of me
See? I'm fine. Absolutely fine
Wait, no! The water is so close
Breathe. Breathe. You're on the shore, you're fine
"You didn't get through. You got swallowed by the ocean. I'm disappointed"
Me too
Me too.
Down town
Ocean town? I took this angle(Out of respect) It’s not the mirror image of that fabulous view @Finder had found.
On our way down the old ocean hwy. Daughters playing Eye Spy. I can catch the smiling if I look sideways. We first crossed the old bridge over old ocean spillway. And turned onto ocean way just in time for sunset. The sun surf and sand in front of the Ocean Inn. Will be well met. By the two little terrors black and blue from bruising. You can bet.
In yesteryear maybe. You’d run smack dab into a sea of azure blue. If you spaced out and didn’t hang a left onto Ocean front drive. Where the remains of old Ocean Wharf extends from. Her decrepit structure hanging out over nothing but sand now. The water retreated a hundred miles from here a decade ago. When the river dried up. Ocean towns tourists did the same. So the merchants rolled up. They had enough. People think you got to be made out of tuff stuff to live out here now. I say it’s never been better my neighbors a cow.
The Ocean and People
Come, walk with me
through the streets of an ocean town
we'll stroll down the boardwalk
and I'll show you what I see
We'll look at the sky reflected by the water
and the boats sailing the waves
and we'll wonder: just what swims below?
whats there where we can't see?
Because the sea reflects the sky
shielding its contents from view
much like people reflect each other
hiding their true thoughts behind a two-way mirror
Strolling through an ocean town
or through an ocean of people
all you'll see is a reflection of the outside
but at least I can always look to the sky
The Ocean Town
Let's take a walk through an ocean town.
Let's smell the breeze and listen to the gulls call
So that when we're apart we can remember ourselves here
Remember the time we had before the fall.
Let's take a walk through an ocean town.
As the smell of fish and chips flavour the air
Maybe one day we'll return and feast on them again
If we can find courage to mend the tear.
Let's take a walk through an ocean town.
We could go crab-hunting amongst the rocks
Using our size and scaring the little critters
Until the monsters landed on the docks.
Let's take a walk through an ocean town.
Death is cruel and cowardly, and so was I
I wish I could have done more
When your turn came to die.
Let's take a walk through an ocean town.
Alone now, through these streets I roam
Smashed buildings become new, seagulls and crabs return
But your tombstone is my home.
Let's take a walk through ocean town.
Let your ghost hold my bloodstained hand
Please forgive me for not loving you enough
Until God my soul demands.
Let's take a walk through my ocean town.
Walking Until We Are Far Away
Let's take a walk... through an ocean town
Where the sky is blue and the sea is bluer.
Where the gulls laugh
And so do the passing children.
It may take a while to get there.
The walk may be long
But the walk in the ocean town
Will be so much longer.
It will be a place where the sun never sets.
Daytime forever, where you smile the whole time
As you look to the ocean.
Our final destination.
We were lost.
Our sky had been covered not by clouds but obscured by clear water.
A nymph held my hand pulling me.
The nymph whispered in my ears.
"Lets take a walk through an ocean town."
Ocean Rhythm
Let’s take a walk in an ocean town
As the sun rises or mayhap as it goes down
Pearly soft light
dimming to night
Where deep ebon becomes golden peach glow
on the froth of waves as the day does grow
Wheeling gulls in dazzling blue sky
pelicans diving into azure sea nigh
Lapping swells breaking over wandering feet
crashing thunder where cliffs ocean do meet
A fish market stands on a time worn pier
a seal’s harsh bark from rocks jumbled near
Salty sweet air
skin almost bare
Sandy white beaches
as a lover beseeches
Their lover’s forgiveness
with audacious brashness
Let’s take a walk in an ocean town
and clear your mind away from your frown
new england day trip
Let's take a walk through an ocean town today
where the buildings line both sides of the road
I'm picturing a gray Maine day, maybe late October or something.
and orange leaves blowing by through the streets and the wind would feel like water.
Maybe we'll stop in one of those places that sell a 5 dollar coffee
and we can sit and talk about nothing,
on a day with nothing to do.
Maybe we'll drive up to Boston tomorrow,
and wander through the park again,
starting, stopping,
people watching,
always something going on with them.
we can buy a pack of cigarettes and share one after lunch
and later stop in a small book shop, not buying, just looking around.
Maybe it'll be cloudy that day and the rain can paint the street
that slick and shiny oil color that looks like it tastes sweet.
And I'll step in it accidentally,
walking out of the bar
and my last words would be "aw man",
as I'm hit by a drunk driver's car.
Ocean Town
He said it so casually, 3 AM, no plan.
"Let's take a walk through an ocean town."
We were weekend warriors
Always on the run
In a permanent state of getaway
What's wrong with where we are?
What's so tragic about home?
He says, "I feel myself getting older.
The clock in the kitchen
Ticks too loudly
Like a bomb in my head
And I'd rather be anywhere else."
I wonder how soon anywhere
Could turn into with anyone
How soon until the ticking in me
Is a bomb inside him that explodes?
So I say "Let's take a walk through an ocean town."
I hate the beach
The ticky tacky cheapness
Of the would-be ocean trinkets
In rundown shops
It's January
Who goes to a beach town in January
Except a man terrified of time
And the woman who loved him too fondly?
The cold air whips
My fraying curls about
But his arm's in my arm
And I'm warm.
I make the plans and I fold the maps
His delicate artist hands
Could never be held in the cages
Of schedules or plans
"That's why I have you." he says
And I smile, because he has me
Which means I still have him
But for how long?
Until the lines on my face
Echo my age?
I won't be young forever.
Will you still want to be seen
On a boardwalk hand in hand
With me once my hair starts to gray?
I find myself wondering
In the future you see
The one where you never grow old
Is it still me, ten years away
To which you say
"Let's take a walk through an ocean town?"
