On This Day: December 3rd … Strange Holidays
National Roof Over Your Head Day
Make A Gift Day
This has to be the shortest list yet. This definitely won’t take long.
Make A Gift Day
Make A Gift Day encourages you to try your hand at producing a gift, no matter what it is. We all have skills we can turn to producing something made with personal care and attention. Whether you’re creating an elaborate card with the little emblems and symbols you know the recipient adores, or creating an entire outfit for that next Con, Make A Gift Day encourages you to really express yourself and your view of the person who will receive the gift, through whatever skills you have in arts and crafts.
The kinds of gifts you can make is limitless, and if you don’t possess the skill to create a gift you can certainly use this as your excuse to learn! Start by making cupcakes for your family and friends, get some colored frosting and get a little creative, who knows what you can come up with! Your recipient will know how much you love them and how much you value your relationship, all wrapped up in one hand made bundle.
The origin, history, and founder of the Make A Gift Day are anonymous. Probably the idea came up in a bar over drinks.
First Man: I don’t know what to get my wife for Christmas.
2nd Man: Just get her something you know will make her day.
First Man: Good idea. I’ll make her day with a handmade gift. Now that that’s settled, are you buying the next round or is it my turn?
Did you know that in China, gifts wrapped in red paper is considered good luck for the one receiving it.
National Roof Over Your Head Day
This was created as a day to be thankful for what you have, starting with the roof over your head. There are many things that we have that we take for granted and do not stop to appreciate how fortunate we are for having them.
All across our nation, there are many that do not have the things that necessary to everyday life. They may lack a roof over their heads, enough food to eat, or clothes to wear. For those who have those bare necessities, it may be insufficient.
What’s devastating now, is the amount of people who have been evicted for non-payment of rent, which for most of them is not their fault. I’m not going into politics, but, well—yeah, it’s the fault of Congress.
The day reminds us to appreciate what you have. This day follows closely after Thanksgiving, a day to be thankful. So just like Thanksgiving, be thankful for what you do have and always remember, that it is a better feeling than worrying about what you do not have.
A couple ways you could help out is donate money to charities that support homeless shelters; perhaps donate some of your time at a shelter to help feed the homeless by serving them food. Do you know a family in need of food? Spend a few bucks and leave the food in a box on their porch or front steps. Write a note that says, “Santa says, Merry Christmas!”
More strange holidays are coming!
Walmart’s Wall
The demo was going great until the jackhammer suddenly stopped. I put down my plans and went to investigate, but only found Juan and Mauricio standing dumbfounded around a half-demolished slab of concrete.
"What the fuck are you--" My bad Spanish fizzled out when I spotted it.
The fingers looked like they belonged to a doll, yet the dust outlined that the little hand had fingerprints. I looked at the men standing at either side of me. Mauricio, a recently immigrated high schooler was slowly turning green. Juan, a father of six, had a line of tears falling from his eyes. I murmured something that I hoped was, "You guys should take the rest of the day off. I'll give you full pay" and took the jackhammer from Juan. The guys left, and I called the police. A few hours later, the cops had taken over the jackhammer and were uncovering the fourth baby as my workers and I stood along the perimeter of our construction site wondering who the fuck would do this.
WHAT IS HOPE?
Hope.1 word. 4 letters. A vast spectrum of meanings. Hope can be the light in the darkness. It can be the good spirit between the bad. The one voice telling you to not give up. Hope is not something that can be defined and kept under a label. Hope has a different meaning for different people. Hope of things getting better is what's driving us through these hard times. Hope of making it is what keeps us sane during this time.hope can be a emotional belief,or a physical being. For hope is just a thought to motivate us.
“Shoes on the Danube Promenade”
Jews in Budapest
(doing what they thought best)
stepped on the bank
of the blue Danube.
Assassins yelled
“Remove your shoes!” —
then BANG!
shot them dead…
60 pair of iron shoes
waiting
at river’s bank,
an empty ghost-filled crowd.
Standing still
after war-torn souls
stepped into Eternity,
leaving their footprints behind.

911 Calls
Because of a post done by Chacko_Stephen,
I was reminded that I have these actuall 911 calls.
Have you ever given any thought as to what runs through
people’s minds when they call 911 and ask the following questions?
This is a time when truth is stranger than fiction.
And keep in mind, these things actually happened.
Enjoy

911 One-Liner’s
Can you call the gas station on I-95 and let me know which ones are still open?
Can you send someone out to my house to change the battery in my smoke detector? I can’t reach it.
Please connect me to the switchboard.
I have the hiccups.
When’s my power coming back on?
There is a squirrel on my porch.
Where the hell are my food stamps? I’m a taxpayer, you know!
Why is the sun so hot in Arizona?
I have a Q-tip stuck in my ear!
There are too many cars parked on the street where I live.
My phone doesn’t work.
Bad Idea Calls
Dispatcher: Sheriff’s Department.
Male Calling: Yeah, do you deliver dope. Ah, me and my girlfriend, we need some dope.
According to an Associate Press article, a 45-year-old man led police on a high-speed chase between Texas and Oklahoma. The fleeing felon lost his patience and kept calling 911 asking the operator to tell the police to stop chasing him.
Dispatcher: 911.
Man: Yeah, I’m having trouble breathing. Out of breath. I think I’m gonna pass out.
Dispatcher: Where are you calling from?
Man: I’m at a pay phone at Ninth and Foster.
Dispatcher: Sir, an ambulance is on the way. Are you an asthmatic?
Man: No.
Dispatcher: What were you doing before you started having trouble breathing?
Man: Running from the police.
Other 911 Calls
Dispatcher: 911. Fire or emergency?
Caller: Neither one. My son was bothering me. Just wanted to let you know.
Dispatcher: What location are you calling from?
Caller: I’m not calling from a location. I’m calling from my cell-phone.
Dispatcher: 911. What’s the nature of your emergency, please?
Woman: I’m trying to reach nine-eleven, but my phone doesn’t have an eleven on it.
Dispatcher: This is 9-11.
Woman: I thought you said it was nine-one-one.
Dispatcher: Yes, ma’am, nine-one-one and nine-eleven are the same thing.
Woman: Honey, I may be old but I’m not stupid!
Dispatcher: 911. What’s the nature of your emergency?
Man: My wife is pregnant, and her contractions are about two minutes apart!
Dispatcher: Is this her first child?
Man: No, you idiot! This is her husband!
