"Gratitude" vs "Indebtedness" -- What is the difference? How would you explain the two in real life emotional examples? (more info in description)

"Gratitude" is the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. "Indebtedness" is synonymous with gratitude, in the feeling of owing gratitude for a service or favor. With these two definitions in mind, think about the nuances between someone feeling "Gratitude" and someone feeling "Indebtedness" and how those differ emotionally. Then write what you come up with. Gratitude is feeling your soul take flight which inspires you to make the world better and share your joy. It is selfless.

Indebtedness is feeling an anchor around your neck which gnaws at you to make your savior better and share their freedom. It is selfish.

Yes, that's right, love is such a base emotion. Such whimpering, simpering sentiment. Oh no, you're way too good for that nonsense. No hands held in public, no languid Sunday drives, no long kiss goodnight. I don't need any more diamonds or designer handbags. Chocolate makes me break out in hives.

So yes dear, I heard you the first time. I know you don't love me--

--You adore me!

Now be a lamb and fetch me my coat and hat. I will be out with some well muscled louts I met playing cards the other week. Don't wait up for me. And don't look at me like that, the cook made a good stew so you won't starve. Yes, yes, of course I appreciate you. No, no, I wouldn't want you to throw yourself off the balcony and ruin someone's Duesenberg.
