A Titanic Finale – (from a slightly different perspective)

The band stood on the sinking deck

Playing music but nothing too sad

The last of the lifeboats were over the side

The situation was bad

The waiter brought the band a drink

Which they thought was rather nice

But the cello player who was rather posh

Had the audacity to ask for ice

The water reached their waist line

It was getting rather cold

Of all the times to lose his hat

The violin player was bald

The ship it is unsinkable

Ships engineer was sure

Shouting above the mania

Whilst waving the ships brochure

The ship it tipped up on its stern

They were almost in the sea

Without a worry for themselves

Played “Nearer My God to Thee”

this is so well done! I love the feeling it gives of, almost like a bittersweet melancholy but the actual tone of this poem is bold, almost challenging the very nature of such an event. anyway, I love this!

Well, well, well, a poem tinged with sadness and blended perfectly with the right amount of humour, finished off with a wickedly hilarious last verse which included the late great Kenneth Moore who some may know from the original "A Night to Remember" film. Here is the final verse for those that missed it or cannot find it above and by kind permission of Julian Race - Stood right behind them with a head that was so sore hanging on to the rear rails was the actor Kenneth Moore! What can I say that has not been said above other than repeat the word BRILLIANT!

Thank you for those very kind words, once this competition is over, I will add the final verse to the main body of the poem as so many people liked it and have asked why it is not in there. The answer is it was written after I had posted the main poem and after it had been read by some of my followers so did not want them to miss out on what other new readers of my work would see, sort of cheating them or selling them short if you see my meaning.
